Ready to Ride

So you bought that new mountain bike from us and now you want to hit the trails for some fun. Here’s a quick list of some of our favorite trails in the area.

Santiago Oaks

This is really close to our shop and we sometimes head to the hills before opening the store. It has a great mix of single track that can be as challenging as you want it to be or take your time and enjoy the views. The park has seen some great upgrades and a dedicated trail maintenance group makes sure these trails stay in great condition. From bermed turns to natural trail features this place has it all for all experience levels.

For directions and maps visit the OC Parks website.

Aliso Woods

Located near Laguna, this trail system is quite popular and in the hotter months can be cooler due to its proximity to the ocean. A mixture of fire road, double track climbs and some exhilarating single track downhill runs. If you are new to the sport take the fire roads and head towards Coyote Run and complete a fun loop through the first part of the canyon. If your legs can stand it, pedal to the “Top of the World” for some great views of the ocean

Visit Geo Ladders for all sorts of loops and trails that are located in the park.

Whiting Ranch

A great ride that has a decent amount of shade and features a mix of climbing and fun descents. You don’t have to be a MTB superstar to ride here and the ride here is fun for all ability levels. If you aren’t new to the sport you can ride a couple laps here to get that mileage in. The first part of the trail starts under a canopy of trees. As you leave the shade you make your way up Mustard hill. Once at the top take a breather and take in the view and then prepare to drop in on Cactus Hill to get the adrenaline pumping. After that you head to the cover of the trees through Sleepy Hollow for some fun up and downs. This is a great ride to introduce new people to the sport but still fun enough for the seasoned riders. For those wanting more of a challenge combine Whiting and the Luge for a longer ride and more challenging terrain.

These are just a few of the great rides in Southern California. So many great trails nearby and with the great weather we can ride almost every day of the year, except when (we mean if)  it rains. Swing by the shop if you need more info on local trails or if you want to learn about the local races in our area. See you on the trails and most of all have fun out there.
